Hurricane Season Alert: Critical Preparation Steps for Property Managers & Boards

As we enter hurricane season, it’s essential for all property managers and board members to understand how critical it is to be fully prepared if and when a storm approaches.

The window for action is small—typically three days or less.
That means your team must be ready to respond quickly to board up, secure the site, and demobilize if needed.

Key Points to Keep in Mind

General Contractor Capacity
Confirm how many units or doors your GC can realistically board up per day. This ensures your entire property can be secured in time.

Materials On-Site
Plywood and all necessary materials should be delivered and stored on-site at the beginning of the season—not after a storm warning is issued.

Weekly Storm Readiness Discussions
Make hurricane prep a standing item in weekly site or board meetings. Review the current plan, assign roles, and identify any gaps.

Activation Protocols
Establish a clear trigger point for board-up action once the property falls within the projected storm “cone.”

Know the Limitations
Plywood board-ups are not waterproof. Neither are most sliding glass doors. Expect and plan for water intrusion from prolonged wind-driven rain.
