Senior Structural Engineer / Director of Engineering (PE/SE)

United Professional Engineering is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer / Director of Engineering to take on a key leadership role within the firm. This individual will oversee engineering operations, lead staff, and serve as the technical authority for all structural and restoration projects.

Position Overview
This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing the engineering team, overseeing project execution, and serving as the lead Professional Engineer for the office. The ideal candidate is experienced in both structural design and building restoration, and is capable of independently delivering projects from initial assessment through construction completion.

This role offers a strong opportunity for long-term growth and leadership, with the ability to make a meaningful impact on the direction and expansion of the firm.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Licensed PE in Florida (required) / SE (preferred)
  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience (building structures)
  • Experience with Phase 1 & Phase 2 Milestone Inspections (Florida)

 

Technical Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of FBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC
  • Experience with structural software such as RISA, RAM, ETABS, ADAPT, SAFE, and/or Revit
  • Proficiency in MasterFormat specification writing
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and reporting skills


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the lead PE for the office, providing engineering oversight and direction
  • Manage day-to-day engineering operations and supervise staff
  • Lead and oversee Phase 1 & Phase 2 Milestone Inspections
  • Prepare and review drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports
  • Take projects from initial assessment through construction completion
  • Write MasterFormat specifications for building restoration projects
  • Oversee Construction Administration, including:
    • Shop drawing and submittal reviews
    • RFIs and contractor coordination
    • Field observations and reporting
  • Conduct forensic investigations (structural failures, water intrusion, construction defects)
  • Manage multiple projects and ensure delivery within schedule and budget
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and staff
  • Attend and lead meetings with clients, contractors, and project teams

Structural Inspector

Education/Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is preferred. EIT License is preferred.
· High School diploma with 5+ years of structural inspection experience. BN License is preferred.
· Experience in concrete restoration is a big plus.

Skills/Qualifications:
· Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and pertinent design codes.
· Knowledge of building fundamentals and design codes and standards such as FBC, ASCE, AISC and ACI.
· Strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communications.
· Excellent planning and organizational skills for our fast-paced environment.
· Highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges.

Duties:
· Required to perform special inspections on restoration projects and new projects.
· Required to perform inspections on swing stages and scaffolding. We will train, as required.
· Assist with Construction Administration phase of projects, including review of shop drawings, submittals, RFI’s and field observation.
· Attend internal and external meetings with clients and design team members.
· Manage multiple projects and assume responsibility for project execution within timeframes.
