Structural Engineering

Since 1999 United Professional Engineering’s focus has been centered around services involving structural engineering. We have designed various types of building structures including, industrial, commercial and educational buildings.

Our structural engineering expertise ensures that the structure can stand up safely and function without excessive deflections such as cracking or failure of fixtures within fittings or partitions. The constructibility of the design is crucial. We ensure that the design is buildable within acceptable manufacturing tolerances of materials. Our team has extensive construction knowledge. We understand the significance of having an efficient buildable design.

In many new building projects, an architect is usually the lead design professional. In these cases, United Professional Engineering acts as a sub-consultant to the architect. Our team is brought into the project after the building has been schematically designed, then we work with the architect to ensure that the building they have designed will stand. However, in the case such as industrial buildings, United Professional Engineering is sometimes the lead engineer and the lead building designer.

Commercial Buildings

A successful commercial building is one that is high quality, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable. These factors play a key role in attracting investors, developers, and patrons alike. For this reason, commercial building projects are often high cost and should adhere to strict deadlines. UPE prides itself on working alongside its clients to realize their needs and visions are fulfilled in a timely and cost-effective manner. Commercial buildings constitute a range of businesses and needs such as residential, leisure, retail, or office space.

  • Hotel
  • Religious Facilities
  • Restaurants
  • Sports facilities
  • Retail Stores
  • Shopping Malls
  • Office Buildings
  • Medical Centers
  • Hospitals
  • Nursing homes

    Industrial Buildings

The infrastructure of our energy, agricultural, and manufacturing sectors is composed of industrial structures. It is critical that the form of the structure meets its function. Industrial complexes must be designed for extreme conditions that a common building cannot handle. UPE is qualified to analyze, design, and optimize these structures to meet these considerable demands.

  • Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings
  • Electric Production Facilities
  • Cement Plants
  • Garages
  • Distribution Centers

    Residential Structures

Our extensive background in construction and engineering design can provide you with insight into the force resisting systems of your residence. With the aid of advanced tools, thorough investigation of foundations, additions, walls , brick cracks, and settlement concerns we can provide peace of mind to our clients that their home is structurally sound. The engineers at UPE can help you to analyze and design the place you call home.

  • Multifamily Apartments
  • Condominium Buildings
  • Single Family Homes

    Marine Structures

Special considerations are taken for structures that are surrounded by water. Being based in South Florida, UPE is equipped to address the distinct demands of marine structures with specialized skills and innovative tools.

    Foundations & Underpinning

The foundations that structures are built upon are only as good as the earth beneath it. In cases of excessive settlement and movement in foundations, underpinning is generally required. These repairs are often seen as safety issues and can affect a home’s value. Waiting too long can lead to costly and harmful consequences and repairs. UPE has dealt with a full range of foundation rehabilitation such as stabilizing sinkhole conditions, improving weak soils, and strengthening existing foundations. This experience also includes the design of:

  • Augercast Piles
  • Helical Piles
  • Micropiles
  • Tiebacks
  • Structural Engineering
    Railings & Specialty Aluminum Structures

Steering away from conventional structures, UPE is capable of designing component systems to act as a single structure. These specialty structures often do not fall into the mold of typical design. Therefore, we use our knowledge of engineering and code requirements to design complex systems and provide shop drawings of:

  • Aluminum/Steel Railings
  • Aluminum/Steel Stairs
  • Brick & Facade
  • Wind Screens
  • Light Gauge Steel
  • Structural Steel Connections
  • Steel Horse Walker Frames
  • Cold-Formed Metal Curtain Wall Design

    3-D Finite Element Models

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a crucial tool in the arsenal of a structural engineer. UPE takes advantage of the power behind Finite Element Analysis to drive down cost for the customer by incorporating Finite Element models into the synthesis of their project. A key aspect in design, FEA helps to solve complex problems resulting in more efficient and faster design decisions and optimizing output.

    CAD Drafting & Construction Documentation

UPE provides clients with drafting, modeling, and other CAD services to produce project deliverables. Our experienced team uses multiple points of data to offer our clients a visualization of their project to aid in planning. Our AutoCAD team can bring years of experience to convert your drawings & plans into clean and detailed, digital drawings.

    Calculation Packages

In the design process, an engineer must perform their due diligence in verifying designs with the appropriate calculations. Documentation of analysis, notes, and comparative designs can be coupled with hand and computer calculations to justify the Proof of Concept. Most jurisdictions will expect to see a formally submitted package of signed and sealed calculations upon permitting for a project. These calculations are a major aspect of design decisions to establish safety, efficiency, and economy of the structure.
